Do You Ever Wonder if You Are Enough?

It’s a long journey, this becoming all we were meant to be. It takes effort, an every single day kind of effort. It’s so easy to give in to that little voice inside that tells us we aren’t enough. But God’s word tells us differently – exceedingly, abundantly differently.

Finding that more abundant place can be a little hard though, can’t it? It literally has taken me decades to get to a place where I realize that I am enough, after all, because it’s not about me or anything I can do. Instead, it’s all about God and who He is. Getting that particular piece of knowledge from my head where I knew the facts to my heart where it was so desperately needed took a new way of thinking and a big redefining in my life.

It’s not about me or what I can do. It’s all about God and who He is. Click To Tweet

Today, I want to invite you to walk with me through a book called I Am, A 60 Day Journey to Knowing Who You Are Because of Who He Is. I Am is a book that will be a powerful continuation of the topic we have been discussing the past few weeks, our true identity. Author, Michelle Cushatt, uses her own riveting personal stories along with insightful Biblical teaching as she takes us on a 60 day journey through the Bible with truth-bearing assurances and challenging questions that will lead to a deeper understanding knowing who we are because of who He is.

This book will help us:

end negative self talk
believe what God says about us
stop agonizing over regrets and failures
make peace with God’s plan for our life
leave insecurity behind
find our identity based on God’s unchanging affection

Can I get an amen to all that?

Michelle’s book points straight back to God and that makes what she says words that you can depend on for direction and insight. Inside you’ll be led to a a rock solid foundation to stand on, a place where you will find yourself learning more and moving deeper into all that it means to be truly you.

This study will take 60 days, but it is very doable. The daily readings are engaging and truth-telling.  Inside each one you will feel understood and find insights and encouragement. I’ve found that in about 10-20 minutes a day I can read the daily devotional, consider the thought provoking questions, and jot down a few notes as I read and study the verses for the day. Friends, what I have read so far shows me this is an amazing book to study.

I really want to go deeper into reading and studying this book, but I’m holding off because I don’t want to study it by myself. Will you join me? I’m creating a private group on Facebook so we can share our thoughts and encourage each other. We’ll start April 3rd. This will give you enough time to order the book and me enough time to get the word out so others can join in. You can sign up by filling out the form at the end of this post.

I encourage you to find out more about Michelle’s book by going to iambook.net. Take a look around and be sure you don’t miss the video at the top of this page. It only takes a few minutes to watch and I believe it will really speak to you!

Remember, if you would like to know more about joining me in studying Michelle Cushatt’s book, I Am, subscribe to the Journeys Book Study Group and I’ll send you more information! You can find the form after this post.

I really can’t wait to begin reading this book in more depth. I’m so hopeful that you will join me!

Blessings,
Leslie

Focus Verses
These are a few of the verses you will find inside Michelle’s book, I Am. I invite you to study these in more depth. Clicking on the verse will take you to it’s page at Bible Gateway where you will find free references and other helps for your studies.

Matthew 10:31You are worth more than many sparrows.
Jeremiah 31:3I have loved you with an everlasting love.
John 15:16You did not choose me, but I chose you.

Let’s Talk
Our true identity is such a hard thing to grasp. There are many voices vying for our attention and telling us deceiving things. It’s easy to get caught up in what we think about ourselves or what the world around us tells us about beauty. What kinds of things do you struggle with that keep you from feeling truly beautiful and loved by Him? I’ll start and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.

Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, True identity is something that is so hard for us to understand. We find ourselves defined by our relationships, our abilities, and all the many things around us. All the while You are with us, quietly waiting for us to look to You and begin to focus on Your truths. We ask You to help us take our eyes off ourselves. Renew our minds and fill us with truth. For it is only in You that we have a true identity and that identity brings a confidence we never thought we could find. We ask You to forgive us for having the wrong focus and we ask You to clear our vision so that we would begin to see Your truths more clearly. In Jesus name, Amen

Next Week
For the next few weeks we are going to talk about a confusing question, “What does “perfect” really mean according to the Bible?” We’ll have some discussion and take a look at a few Bible verses, in particular, Matthew 5:48. Go ahead and take a look at it and see what you think. Have you ever questioned that verse? I sure have! I’d love it if you’d come back next week as we begin discussing this topic!

  1. Leslie, we all need daily reminders of who we are in Christ. There are so many inner and outside voices that tells differently. Sounds like a great study.

    1. Debbie, Yes, for sure! I think it will be a good study. I’m looking so forward to it!

  2. Leslie, how fun! Will you update on your blog from time to time, too? I wish I were able to join the study, but I have some other involvements at the moment. If only I had 60 hour days! 🙂 I look forward to hearing what you learn. It sounds like a wonderful study. — I think the thing that sits in the back of my head that often keeps me from feeling lovable is the fact that I’ve never felt accepted by my parents. But, God is so faithful to remind me that He finds me lovable and that I’m enough for Him. <3 He's the best. 🙂 — Thanks for sharing with #ChasingCommunity today, Leslie. Great to have you with us! ((hug))

    1. Brenda, I need 60 hour days, too! I’m sending out emails with the book study for those who are not on Facebook and still thinking on options for updating on the blog. I’m so glad you feel God’s love and acceptance in the midst of difficult circumstances. It certainly shows that you do because you give love out wherever you go! Thank you hosting #ChasingCommunity! Blessings!

    2. Leslie – I want a 60 hour day too like Brenda. Is that possible? I am so glad you stopped by my site. I love your site and what you write about. I can’t wait to read more. I wish I could join your study it sounds fabulous. I am in the middle of Entrusted by Beth Moore one, so I know I would be in over my head.

I hope you will share or write about it. I look forward to hearing about it on your blog.

I couldn’t agree with you more that it is a long journey to becoming who we are meant to be. I have to admit – I am exhausted with the process at times.

      1. Maree, Thank you for stopping by today! 60 hours would be awesome! And it truly is a long and sometimes exhausting journey, isn’t it? I will share in some form or another on the blog. : ) I am sorry you can’t join in this study, but I totally understand! And Beth’s studies are fantastic! Blessings!

        1. And Maree, Thank you so much for the kind words! That is so encouraging to me!

  3. Love that our identity should be found in Christ, but it can be difficult in a culture that says otherwise. Glad Christians have so much encouragement from other believers! Thanks for linking up at Literacy Musing Mondays!

    1. Brandi, Yes! It’s so good go have so much encouragement from others! Thank you for hosting Literacy Musing Mondays! Blessings!

  4. Love your prayer! Identity and self worth are two things I see so many women struggling with these days. And I believe it is because we’ve forgotten what God says about us. This was just what I needed to center me this morning! Blessings!

    1. Liz, I agree! I think at the root of many of our struggles is the fact that we struggle with out self worth and value. Like you, I have learned that when the discouragement hits me, remembering what God says and thinks about me makes all the difference in the world! Thank you for the encouragement! Blessings back. : )

  5. Thanks so much for the encouragement! For a long time, I thought that I was the only one who ever felt like I wasn’t enough! When I stopped holding myself up to ‘man’s standard’ – and even to my own standard- and started focusing on pleasing God and allowing Him to use me and help me, I finally was free. Anyway, love it! And thanks for the post!

    1. Ariel, Thank you for sharing a little about your story! I love hearing how God has set others free. I, too, felt alone in my struggle of never feeling like I was enough. It’s how the enemy wants us to feel, but God is bigger than all that. PTL! I’m glad this was encouraging to you! Blessings!

  6. You’ve piqued my interest in this book. I want all my brain knowledge about Jesus to become me in every part.

  7. Sounds like a great read, especially with all the negatives the enemy whispers in the mind, through media and people… I love the scriptures you shared, our identity comes from God alone. After all, He is The One Who made us and knows us better than anyone else, even ourselves.
Thanks for sharing this book Leslie, I hope to get it.

    1. Ugochi, I am very excited about this book. I hope you can join us in the book study group! Yes, He does know us better than we even know ourselves and that’s a really great thought! Blessings!

  8. I’m familiar with Michele through her cohosting with Michael Hyatt and I know that she’s battled some kind of mouth cancer recently. I’m sure that factors hugely in this latest book of hers. So I’m certain it will be a page-turner as well as tear-jerker! I viewed the video and it looks like inspiration from cover to cover! Thanks for letting us know about it, Leslie.

    1. Beth, It is a very inspirational and truth giving book. Michelle’s story will speak to all of us. I really can’t wait to start the book study! Thanks for stopping by today!
