A Grace Just for You

When discouragement strikes, remember God’s grace. It’s a gift created with you in mind. It’s just enough at just the right time. Find out more here!

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Ephesians 4:7 (NKJV)

It had been a rough day. I was tired, the house was dirty, and I needed to figure out what to fix for supper. My two little children were still very young and dependent on me, and I felt like I didn’t have what it took to be a good mother to them. I was upset about other things that have since left my memory and the whirlwind of discouraging thoughts I was having felt like more than I could handle.

I stopped and looked out the kitchen window with a sigh. I was off in a barrage of negative thinking when I heard them as they came bursting through the door. He was hot and sticky and had his big, chubby cheeks were apple red. Her eyes were so full of excitement about the surprise they had for me that she could hardly contain herself.

He brought his hands out from behind his back and reached up toward me with a little bouquet of daisies. She had helped him pick them. They came from the edge of our driveway on a hot, sticky summer day. There weren’t very many, and a few of the stems were broken and travel weary, but those flowers, just like my young children, were sweet and innocent, devoid of the cares of this world.

My sigh turned into a smile at the thought of the sweetness of motherhood.

And then I remembered that God knew.

He sent my children through that door with a gift for me. He did it at just the right moment and in just the right way. It was a simple thing, but it was exactly what I needed that day.

God’s grace is like that.

It is a gift created just for us. It comes at just the right time, in just the right way.

If we look into the Greek meanings of one of the words in this verse, we’ll find some interesting insights.

The Greek word that is translated “measure” is kata. The word kata encompasses the following ideas according to the HELPS Word-studies. (You can find this reference on this page at Bible Hub.)

General definitions include:
• to bring down exactly, complete
• day by day
• according to
• by way of

A more specific explanation from the Helps Word-studies for the Greek word kata reveals this definition:
• “down from, i.e. a higher to a lower plane, with special reference to the terminus (end-point)” (J. Thayer).

When I think about these insights it makes me feel loved in a very special way. How about you? When discouragement strikes, remember God’s grace! It’s a gift created with you in mind. It’s just enough at just the right time! Find this bookmark and read more by clicking through to the link!

God’s grace is given to us in exactly the right measure. He’s always giving us the grace we need to equip us for what we need that particular day. It’s brought down and portioned out exactly to our individual needs. It’s our portion of the fullness of Christ.

I love the way Matthew Henry states it:

“There is a fullness in Christ, and a measure of that fullness given in the counsel of God to every believer; but we never come to the perfect measure till we come to heaven. God’s children are growing, as long as they are in this world; and the Christian’s growth tends to the glory of Christ.” ~Matthew Henry

It continually amazes me that the Lord of this universe cares about us so much that he would individually package a gift with each one of us in mind, even before the foundation of this world! (We talked about that last week in this post.) He has given us a measure of the fullness of Christ to help us grow and continue to glorify Him. Now that is grace!

Let’s Talk
What is it about God’s grace that makes you feel special and loved uniquely?

Let’s Pray
Dear Lord, We come before you today so very thankful for your grace. To think that you would give it to us freely, and portion it out to each of us individually based on our needs and our season in life constantly amazes us. We praise you and thank you for all that you are. We ask you to help us understand Your love in a deeper way and that we would be pouring it out on others as we go. In Jesus name, Amen.

Next Week
I’m working on some practical resources for your quiet time notebooks (or any prayer notebook). They’ll summarize and add to our discussions about grace. Thank you for giving me grace and patiently waiting until my summertime allows me the space to get them ready for you! Keep checking back. They’ll be here soon!
