How to Pray Scriptures During Times of Transition

Do you need some specific prayers in a time of transition? Check out these powerful verses you can pray to help you through times of change!

Meeting with God During Times of Transition

If you are going through a lot of changes in your life, you may be dealing with uncertainty about the future. The steps ahead may not be easy for you to see. But we know we have a God who never changes and can see the big picture a whole lot better than we can. The best way for us to see that picture, find some assurance, and gain strength for the journey is to meet up with God in prayer and in His word.

If you are going through a transition, here is a prayer plan you can use. It’s based on the word REST.  Finding rest in life, physically as well as spiritually, is what we need in order to make it through times of transition.

R = Rely on God

E = Express Your Praise

S = Set Free

T = Treasure Your Blessings

R = Rely on God

Choose one of the verses below to help you remember you can rely on God to direct your paths. Read the verse you have chosen and repeat it out loud. You could also put it in your own words – a personalized prayer of sorts. You can rely on God because He will direct your steps.

Here are some Bible verses you can look up that will help you remember you can rely on God!

Proverbs 3:5-6

Psalm 119:133

Psalm 37:23

Proverbs 16:9

Proverbs 20:24

E = Express Your Praise

Think about the characteristics of God that can help you through times of change.  Choose one of the verses below. Look it up in your Bible, read it out loud or put the verse into your own wording.

God never changes:

James 1:17

Malachi 3:6

Hebrews 13:8

God goes with you:

Exodus 33:14

Deuteronomy 31:6

Isaiah 48:16

S = Set Free

In order to find rest we need to be set free from the things that hold us back from being all that God has created us to be. Take some time to consider what you might need to let go of today. Do you need to ask forgiveness over an issue in your life? Do you have a mindset or negative thinking that holds you back? These verses might help you. Choose one, look it up and say it out loud. Think about those words and offer them as a sincere prayer to the Lord.

Hebrews 12:1-2

Psalm 103:11

Romans 6:14

Isaiah 43:25

John 8:36

T= Treasure Your Blessings

Think of something that you are thankful for, even in the midst of change. Name it. Write it down. Gratitude helps keep the focus off of your troubles and gives you a little thing to hold on to when times are tough.

To review, your transition prayer plan looks like this:

R = Rely on God

Praying a verse to remind you that God is directing your steps

E = Express Your Praise

Praying a verse to help you draw strength from God’s character

S = Set Free

A time of confession and letting go so you can be set free from the things that hold you back

T = Treasure Your Blessings

Being thankful for God’s blessings, even during times of change

When you walk through those steps, you may find it easier to trust the Lord during times of transition.

  1. I like the set free part too, Debra. Something we need to focus on every day! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Simple and great tips! I especially love the set free – what a perfect time to make sure I am not holding anything that I need to give to God. Many Thanks 8)
