Have you ever felt inadequate or do you suffer from a lack of confidence? Me too, more times that I’d like to admit. There are so many reasons behind it, and they are different for each one of us. In the past, I’ve felt inadequate in so many areas.

•social situations
•leadership positions
•teaching jobs
•writing
•marriage
•motherhood
•friendships
•spiritually

That’s just about everywhere, isn’t it? And I believe I’m not alone. We all suffer from a lack of confidence at one time or another. The thing is, as Christians, we have a power source that can overcome our lack of confidence and fear of inadequacy. We talked about this recently. You can find the blog post HERE.

One particular situation where lack of confidence may especially be troublesome is during those times when you feel God calling you to do something. This is when Satan will attack the hardest, filling your mind with lies to try to convince you that you are not the right person for the job.

Friends, we’ve got to fight hard to overcome those kinds of attacks. They’ll bring us down if we don’t call on the Holy Spirit in us to do the fighting for us. We’ll stay stuck right where we are if we don’t take that power within and keep on fighting. It’s so incredibly hard when those attacks come, but you are not alone, and there are many ways the Lord will reach out and speak to you and help you through those tough times when you feel you just can’t move forward.

Do you need some encouragement in this area? Here are some Bible verses for you to read and repeat. God’s word is powerful in filling our minds with truth and repelling the lies of the enemy. Consider repeating or praying these verses one a day for the next 7 days. I will be doing this. Will you join me? 7 Verses to Pray When You Lack Confidence

If you struggle with a lack of confidence, you are not alone. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

God has not given us a spirit of fear; instead His presence provides us with power, love and a sound mind.

Hebrews 4:16 (NASB)
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

We can come boldly before His throne. We’ll find grace to help us in all our needs. Ask. He’ll be there for us.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB)
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

His grace is enough, and our weaknesses only serve to reveal His power perfected.

2 Corinthians 4:7 (NASB)
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.

It’s not about what we can do. It’s about what He can do!

Isaiah 40:31 (NASB)
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Sometimes moving forward is all about waiting on the Lord’s timing and the revealing of His purposes for us. We can be actively seeking Him while we wait. And that, in itself, is a step in the right direction.

Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Because of His strength inside us, we can do all that He has called us to do.

Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

We Can Be Confident!

We can be confident that God has a good work for us to do, and He will perfect it. Perfect means complete, not mistake-free. It’s our setbacks, failures, and mistakes that grow us and help us learn what we need to learn in order to do the work He calls us to do. This is how “perfect” develops within our spiritual lives. Jesus is the only perfect One, and we have Him giving us Holy Spirit power within to keep us facing in the right direction. It’s about depending on His perfection within us to complete the work God has called us to do.

Getting into God’s word like this, praying and repeating verses, this is what gets us ready for the battle. And when God calls, there will most certainly be one. Will you join me this week in praying and reflecting on these 7 truths from God’s Word? Let’s fight the battle by filling our minds with truth!

Perfectionism Pinpoint
Perfectionism involves a lot of fear, and one of the big ones is the fear of moving forward. Here are a few reasons why perfectionism makes it hard to move ahead and a few thoughts meant to encourage you.

•You are afraid you will make mistakes. (So accept that you will and learn from them. I know it’s easier said than done, but we have Jesus to help us grow in this area.)

•You have a fear of the unknown. (God is the only One who sees the big picture that shows the end result. We just have to keep taking little steps until we get there.)

•You can’t see the path ahead of you and lack clear direction. (God in His wisdom seems to only reveal the plans a little at a time. Look just ahead instead of trying to see around the corner.)

•You are afraid you don’t have what it takes. (It’s not about you, it’s about God’s power within you. See this post.)

•You are afraid of what others will think of you. (It’s not about what others think about you, it’s about what God thinks about you. See this post.)

•You are afraid to move out of your comfort zone. (Sometimes moving forward with something feels like jumping off the edge of a cliff. There’s Someone who will catch you and keep you from falling if you will trust Him. Psalm 37:24 tells us,When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.”)

Don’t let perfectionism and the fears it wields stop you from doing what God is calling you to do!

Let’s Pray
Dear Lord, we thank you and praise you for living in our hearts today through your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for being the Father that leads and guides us, pushing us forward into the unknown when we’d rather stay in our comfortable place. Help us to see you holding our hands as we take that leap of faith into what you are calling us to do. In Jesus name, Amen.
